Lots of discussion boards talk about how bootcamps are a waste and you can get the same education through online education like code academy. I'm sure a lot has changed since I took the course. With our group being the first, they were tweaking things for groups after us.
The other switched to a developer job about 6 months after graduation. One was able to switch departments at work and has moved into a more tech field although it wasn't something we covered during the course. Two of my close friends from the U course felt that the career resource part was a joke. Prime has better connections in the community for jobs and of course since you aren't working there is lots of pressure to find a job. Cost-wise the U is more affordable especially if you can pay up front. I did consider Prime, but they did not offer an option for part time so I would have to leave my job. At the time they did not have very many connections in the tech field. I attend some of the online sessions, but ultimately just needed a break. There is a lot to learn.Īs for finding a job after, there was someone you could connect with remotely for help. At the end of the 24 weeks, I didn't feel confident in my skills which is common in the field. I took the course to switch careers but have not done this yet. You could show up about 30 minutes before or after class for one on one help. Each week we covered a different topic and would have an assignment due. On Saturdays both cohorts were together for class with one instructor and 4 assistants. There were 2 cohorts going with 30 people in each class with one instructor and 2 assistants.
The sessions were 2 weekday nights (6:30 to 9:30) and Saturdays (10 to 2). The majority of people in the class worked full time in addition to attending. I was in the first group of part time students to go through the program.
Be prepared to be put to the test on the spot in interviews. No one gives a shit about degrees or certificates. I did that as well.įront end dev is about skills. I succeeded, then was asked to optimize it. My first gig I landed, I walked into the interview and they handed me a marker, pointed me to a white board, and asked me to write code that would do some sorting and construct an output object. The biggest hurdle any bootcamp grad faces is getting a tech gig.ĮDIT: I'm literally deleting half my post to do a new ending. It's probably the best bootcamp in the area, which isn't really beating out that much competition. The university does not participate in the bootcamp in any way. Trilogy is essentially renting a room and using some U of M letterhead for a certificate. I graduated from the "U of M Bootcamp" about 2 years ago.įirst, it's Trilogy Education, not the U of M.
